“Meet the women you don't know, behind the mission you do.”
Hidden Figures follows three African American women whose work at NASA helps drive a crucial space mission. Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson are each shown bringing intelligence, discipline and persistence to a system that often overlooks them. As the pressure around the launch builds, their contributions become impossible to ignore. The film presents their efforts as both personal and historic, with ordinary work carrying extraordinary weight.

The film was directed by Theodore Melfi and stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe as the women at the center of the story. Henson plays Katherine, whose calculations are essential to the mission, while Spencer’s Dorothy keeps her place through technical skill and resolve. Monáe’s Mary pushes toward the training and recognition she needs to move forward. Their performances anchor the film’s focus on work, ambition and quiet determination.

Set in the 1960s, the story unfolds inside the world of NASA and the wider pressures of segregation and sexism. It mixes historical drama with the energy of the space race, giving the film a serious but uplifting tone. The setting makes the women’s achievements feel both specific to their time and larger than it.
