“25 years ago the world's greatest hero vanished.”
In a city sliding toward chaos, thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary becomes convinced that his reclusive neighbor, Mr. Smith, is the vanished vigilante known as Samaritan. As crime surges and the streets grow more dangerous, Sam keeps pushing the older man to step back into the light. The story follows that uneasy pursuit of a hidden hero and the hope that he can still matter. It builds around a boy’s stubborn belief and a city that seems to be losing control.

Julius Avery directs the film, shaping the action around Sam’s determination and Mr. Smith’s guarded silence. Javon Walton plays Sam as the one who refuses to let the mystery go, while Sylvester Stallone gives Mr. Smith a worn, withdrawn presence. Pilou Asbæk appears as a force tied to the city’s worsening violence, sharpening the pressure around them. The cast keeps the focus on the tension between a child’s certainty and an older man’s reluctance.

Made in the United States, the film mixes crime and science-fiction elements with a grim, street-level tone. Its setting feels battered and uneasy, with poverty and unrest feeding the sense that order is slipping away. At 102 minutes, it leans on the clash between hidden power and public danger, using that contrast to give the story a brooding, rough-edged mood.
